The Ancient Ones: The Anasazi

The Anasazi were Native American peoples who existed in Arizona and New Mexico in about 1200 AD. Their ceremonies took place in kivas--below ground level, circular, walled dwellings that climbed in and out of by a ladder. Their cliff buildings were up to five stories. Chaco Canyon became the grand example of the area. They farmed and had grain houses. Their cliff dwellings still remain today. No one knows why their civilization disappeared!
