This is a geographic phenomenon left over from the ice age. A massive body of water was released in the ice age when an ice dam melted down and broke loose. Water flooded the landscape and produced a falls (similar to Niagara Falls) at what is now called Dry Falls. Down below the volcanic cliffs is a string of lakes called Sun Lakes.
There is a Dry Falls Visitor Center and lookout area.
