I had left Seattle, Washington in August 2001 to Ketchum, Idaho for a 30-day leave. I was on vacation yet the company I worked for went bankrupt and closed its doors. My stay prolonged. On the morning of September 11, 2001 I found myself woken up by my college boyfriend who still lived at home. I was told to come watch television in his parent's bedroom. The father was in the kitchen and his mother in the master bathroom getting ready...along with my ex...(weird, now that I think about it!--it was a three bathroom cabin after all!). I was watching the news. New York City was under attack. A building was in flames and I remember people being recorded jumping from buildings holding hands as the building was in flames from two planes crashing into each one of them. (One plane each...)
What was going through my head? I can remember thinking about my what I had been told in college...American corporations selling formula to African peoples with no refrigeration thus murdering babies because they didn't educate them on their product and they knew they didn't have refrigeration. Next...horror. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and that I wasn't crying.
