Personal Odds And Ends

The shyest child kept to herself: watched and listened. Was told "children should be seen and not heard." Made me clam up. And my mother always sided with other people if I had a complaint. I stopped voicing my concerns and opinions. Maybe now...I have built up enough storage and am blowing my top!

Loved looking out the picture window at the world at hand--whatever that may have been! At three I watched an old weeping willow tree get uprooted from a major windstorm and fall on the neighbor's house. In a new house with a new scene I watched robins pull worms from the grass on those early mornings.

I brought the neighbor's cat to show-and-tell in preschool--my brother named her Sing-Sing. With a love for cats my family had a part-Siamese cat who birthed many litters (three is recommended!). What a joy I got out of having kittens around for years. My favorite sat on shoulders--how docile he was.

For a time us kids (two brothers) rotated bedrooms--one upstairs, and two makeshift ones in the basement. Three children in a two bedroom house. The laundry overflowed in the basement and video games were played. I was typically kicked-off when my brothers got home but as an adult I bought a Nintendo Switch so I could reconvene with Mario Brothers! (For my future...)

Across the alley were 5:00 PM dinners in the formal dining room and lunches in the basement. Across the street was a mechanic with a special sense of humor and view of the valley. Next door was a horny toad. School buses picked up at the top of the alley!

In high school, I inherited the embarrassing hand-me-down vehicle--a black hatchback Datsun with ambre-ish red stripes! On the ride radio waves distributed the alternative--107.7 FM The END. A year later came the old jeep truck. Green in color, a pick-up and it became my ride.

My favorite high school experience had to be Leadership Camp the summer before my senior year. I was Associated Student Body Treasurer and I have figured out I am not good at money! The job consisted of signing away my signature to the school bookkeeper's needs!?

College bound I decided to take the SATs on a whim...what does that mean? With no money for college and I wanted to just see what I could get on the test without studying! They said I got 850. I realize now I was lied to!
