Now I come to the hustle and bustle of Murphy Avenue on occasion and I am in awe of its being. I love it and I don't understand it! It is a block of restaurants for the most part...some open in the morning but most not. Most gaining patronage around dinner. It is quite ethnically diverse and that may have been the case since its beginning? I don't know...I am going let my imagination run wild here. On this block there is a dance club that is no longer open. There is a business of billiards. And at the end of the block is Historic Del Monte (now Evelyn) that stands Murphy Square.
Murphy Square is my main subject of this post. It's empty for what I can tell. An old white Spanish style building with a tile roof and black wrought iron details. It is next to the train station. The bus station is parallel to Murphy Avenue. But what happened at Murphy Square? I think this area was littered with brothels. Including Murphy Square. There are rooms in this three story building that over look the train tracks. Murders occurred here and that is why businesses fail--it's haunted. They try but they cannot concentrate because ghosts make things happen--they talk, they interfere and they are at unrest. They are pissed off you exist in a place they were murdered!
A ghost wants to be avenged, remembered and resurrected to tell their story. Let it be.
What do I see for the future of Murphy Square? Let it stand. Let it be remembered that God's people were in captivity here and were murdered for it. Let artists inhabit those spaces and be inspired by the past, present and future. I want portraits of those murder victims--fine women put in a compromising situation! I want a historical account of what went on in Sunnyvale...how Murphy Avenue came to be and the Gold Rush--what was its part? Give us a historical society, please.
