One of my favorite things to learn in an Anthropology class was that Giants roamed the Earth during the Ice Age or Paleolithic Era...this is little snippets of what I could find for the Americas.

Giant Ground Sloths were as big as elephants and roamed the terrain of South America. They were thought to have burrowed large tunnels and habitats underground but this occurrence maybe due to activity of the Giant Ant Eaters!

Giant Beavers were a keystone species and were as big as bears! A keystone species is what one others are dependent on in an ecosystem--kind of the anchor for it! As we know beavers today created dames and dwellings out of chewed down trees. The dams create an ecosystem for others to dwell in.

Sabertooth Cats specialized in hunting large prey. (There are unknown reasons of extinction...) "They would chase after their prey with bursts of energy and lunge at prey--they went for the throat bite to kill its next meal!"

Mammoths or Wooly Mammoths also navigated North America! Its habitat was grassland and tundra.
