Normally, we tend to think of bullying in school, but really, it can occur in any environment...at any age! Even nursing homes aren't immune to bullying. And if it is passive bullying where a group is ignoring you...find something better to do--you are better than that! In other words, I don't mean you have to quit the activity but maybe you can study on your own or find a new friend to share your time with!
And if the act of being bullied has got you down...report it! If a teacher or your supervisor is unaware--make them aware. And the best avenue is to do it in writing with a time and date of the bullying occurrence! Even document when you talk to and turn in your complaint and keep a copy! Bullying leads to serious health problems. "The psycholocal effects of bullying include depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, self-harming behavior (especially for girls), alcohol and dependence, aggression, and involvement in violence or crime (especially for boys). StopBullying.gov And if people retaliate--that is illegal too! Seek a lawyer's assistance!
"Yes. California anti-bullying laws require disctricts to adopt a policy that prohibits discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and bullying based on actual or perceived characteristics including immigration status, disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or association with a person or group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics." StopBullying.gov And I would like to add--economic status!
