You might think famous photographers like Dorothea Lange and John Muir had the absolute awesome opportunity of a lifetime but did you know they worked for the government and their photographs were considered government property? They don't have rights to their own artistry and neither do their offspring!
Dorothea Lange was interested in documenting the Dust Bowl and poverty around the United States in an attempt at social change.
John Muir wanted to share the beauty of the American landscape and was named the "Father of National Parks".
Sure, they are famous and we thank them for their genius. But could the government work out a deal with photographers, and artists alike, and give them royalties and rights to some of their work?
