Artists And Designers

There are artists and then there are avant garde artists. What's the difference? All artists create. Artists can be creative, and still traditional. Think of a classical landscape painter...but then there are those that bend the norms, discover new processes and dance to their own beat--these are avant garde artists!

There is also the dynamic of artist vs. designer. I was challenged in a 3-D Art class to make some changes to my sculpture that were not my ideas or direction. My irritation soared in front of the whole class. My teacher explained to the class--there are artists and then there are designers. Artists like their own input while designers can take direction from outside sources.
